There exists a man who is considered, like Buddha, an enlightened being and is called the White Flame. Unfortunately, he does not know he is enlightened, and is sometimes referred to as the Enlightened Idiot. Joking aside, he is still a human being affected by emotion and stress. Under the right conditions, his mind could be coerced into speaking the truths about the universe, which can be dangerous should he fall into the wrong hands.

In order to protect the White Flame, eight souls were bound to his. These eight souls can reincarnate, and they have always been female. They have come to adopt the identity as the White Knights of the Lotus. Their sole purpose is to ensure that the White Flame does not fall into the wrong hands, and to make sure that his soul lives forever.

There also exists a lineage of assassins known as the Black Wind, bound forever to its own obsession to extinguish the White Flame permanently, unwilling to allow a threat to walk freely within the corruptible nature of humankind. However, the only person who knows the method to destroying the White Flame is the White Flame himself. The Black Wind lineage has maintained records of methods to break the mind of the White Flame, and it has been recorded in history of the near-successes at uncovering the method of permanent death. But to date, the White Knights have managed to safeguard this secret, and perhaps one can say protected the love of their lives: the White Flame. We can only imagine what knowledge is contained within the White Flame, and when it would be appropriate to grant such knowledge to humankind.
