Career

My career goal in life is to be a Chief Knowledge Officer (CKO) for a multi-billion dollar company. According to Wikipedia:

CKOs can help an organization maximize the returns on investment in knowledge (people, processes and intellectual capital), exploit their intangible assets (know-how, patents, customer relationships), repeat successes, share best practices, improve innovation, and avoid knowledge loss after organizational restructuring.

The difference between information and knowledge is that knowledge is considered an asset, and information is a more general term. In order to be a successful, I need to have a team of people who have an understanding of the following concepts:

  • Graphic Design - The application of aesthetics principles to information.
  • Human-Computer Interaction - The study of interaction between people (users) and computers.
  • Information Architecture - The practice of structuring information for purpose.
  • Information Technology Management - Creating computer-based communication systems that aligns itself with organizational goals.
  • Information Design - Structuring information that maximizes user comprehension.
  • Knowledge Management - Gather, manage, and use the knowledge organizations acquire.
  • Marketing - Management process of anticipating, identifying and satisfying customer requirements profitably.
  • Research & Development - Refers to future-oriented, longer-term activities in science or technology.
  • Technical Communication - The process of conveying information about a specific technology to an intended audience.

With these in mind, my career sub-goals include being a:

  • Student - Graduate from school with a Ph.D.
  • Designer - Push for innovative collection of knowledge into visual forms.
  • Activist - Promote civic participation within the Vietnamese-American community, as well as education reform.
